2011 in the Rear View Mirror

You all know how I hate mirrors. And how much MORE I hate the rear view! But I am delighted that 2011 is behind us. Every bit of good that happened has been nearly run over by the bad that followed. I have lived long enough to know that after a couple of those kinds of years, there will be good years to follow. It’s just keeping yourself together so you can be ready to enjoy the good when it comes. *staples self together*

The upshot for the comic is that the real world will still take priority and updates will continue to be very sporadic. However, my resolution is to make more time for the comic. I find I am more energized when I am being creative, and I lost my zest in 2011, the whole time I wasn’t doing the comic or at least drawing *something* every day.

It is so rewarding to make comics for you. I enjoy writing and drawing, but my enjoyment grows when I can share the comics with you. Talking with you in the comments and on facebook and twitter adds to the whole experience. That’s why when I’m counting my blessings this year, I include those of you who read and enjoy Life’s a Witch.

Tell Tale Heart: Animated

This 1953 animated version of Tell Tale Heart is one of the greatest. At just over 7 minutes, it is well worth a break in your day to give it your full attention. If that doesn’t convince you, does knowing that the narration is performed by the amazing James Mason help?
If not, I’d call you mad…

Birthday Present from Husband–Signed Print!

My husband continues to be awesome. Look what arrived yesterday! This is a late birthday gift he ordered a while ago. He kept saying, “You have something else coming and you’re gonna love it.” And here it is: A signed print of a Sunday strip of the comic “For Better or For Worse” by Lynn Johnston!! He was right! I do love it! It is signed, “Happy Birthday Samantha” in the bottom left and her signature is on the right.

For those that don’t know, our family in Life’s a Witch is named the “Johnston” family after Lynn Johnston. I loved the ups and downs of family life depicted in For Better or For Worse when I was growing up, and have collections of the strip scattered on bookshelves throughout the house.

This strip is great because it features “Farley,” the family dog and how he still sleeps on the couch even with a comfy new puppy bed to sleep on. I can so identify with that… Gladys is not allowed on the furniture here, but I’ve still caught her snoozing! It’s a wonderful strip, and no dialog like most of FBoFW’s Sunday features.

I can’t wait to have this framed and displayed where I can see it every day. It’s wonderful!

Fireants At Work

We had some interesting weather around here thanks to Hurricane Hermine’s passage through town last night. Now that the waters have receded a bit and the dogs will actually “go” outside, I see that the fire ants are laying a trap for me!!! This is the beginning of an ant hill RIGHT where I walk!
