Why do I have critters on my mind lately?

Well if you did kill that cricket, you’ve just ruined its chances at getting to the Backyard Summer Games 2012… It was competing for the high jump into a residence and was set to win the golden nugget…
Another Backyard Summer Games Event was Raided last week… the 100,000 Ant tug of war was canceled due to said Raid.
You guys were lucky. I have had a palmetto bug crawl across my face in the middle of the NIGHT. Took me at least 15 minutes to calm down enough to get back to sleep…. *shivers*
For me, it depends on the bug. Spiders I don’t mind if they stay out of sight as they eat other bugs…. unless the cat gets them first. (I can usually tell if she’s eaten a bug; she’ll eat her dry food, then said food comes up 3 minutes later. Eww, but it happens….) Roaches & ants get attacked; wasps/hornets (which I am slightly allergic to)/bees get *psychically* pushed away… and I watch spiders. If it’s one of those Brown Recluse ones, it also gets attacked. At my new place, anything outside the house gets taken care of, so I don’t worry about it.
At least until it’s a *dog* (sorry, Sam) who gets too close to my porch; then I’m getting a super-soaker gun. Put in a Tbs. of vinegar, and the dogs will stay away….
I will start by saying that I am a natural science geek. I know, I’m weird.
Insects don’t bother me (and I’ve taken an Entomology class and have my own collection in Schmitt boxes). I will usually put the critter outside. Mosquitoes and roaches, however, will DIE if they come near me. I’m mildly allergic to the former’s bite and I acquired a dislike for the latter from my mother, and they spread disease. Flies will be swatted indoors because they are ANNOYING! If I can chase them outside, I will. Spiders will be put safely outside. They eat insects, and that’s a good thing. I know there are black widows by the patio because I’ve found their webs, but I haven’t spotted any occupants yet. I try not to touch webs with my bare hands, just in case. Haven’t encountered any brown recluses, and I hope not to. There is a small paper wasp nest in a corner of the yard where the dog can’t get at it and it’s out of the way. They also eat insects.
However, I won’t take chances with a critter I know to be venomous, like scorpions and black widows. I use caution.
My dog sometimes brings critters into the house. Geckos, moths, and 3 just-hatched cicadas that weren’t fast enough. This is why I always wear slippers when crossing the living room at night. ![]()
And I find the sound of crickets on a warm summer night one of the most soothing sounds I know.
rofl, oh that is so classic, Witchy! but where was the scream? Usually a hysterical scream, then running thru the house announcing at the top of ones lungs that there is a bug of nasty origin in said room. A lot of hopping around, climbing on chairs and grabbing anyone who unwillingly enters the room is accosted. that only happens here when a nasty miller gets in the house. I don’t mind spiders, and we don’t have roaches up here. see, living in the tundra is good! LOL

You must be going buggy from all the heat!
