Celebrity Model for Zelda
I’m having a hard time getting focused today, so I thought I’d get back to comic basics. I need your help with this exercise: A celebrity model for each of my characters–specifically, WHO would I use as a model for Zelda?
Cheryl Ladd as Tina
The idea behind picking a celebrity model is that there are hundreds of pictures of celebrities from all angles. They make a perfect source for photo reference when drawing.
Even though the main character of Life’s a Witch is Zelda, I have spent much more time developing Tina (the Tooth Fairy character) in my mind. Her celebrity model started out as Elizabeth Montgomery, the actress from the BEWITCHED television series, especially the first and second season. However, in doing this exercise today, I have decided that actress Cheryl Ladd from the old Charlies Angels tv show better fits my mental image of Tina.
But who do you think would be a good celebrity model for Zelda? My very first thought was Kathy Najimy, but it’s just not quite right. I would love to know what YOU think!
(Edited to add: For Witchy’s husband Bill, I chose Gerard Butler … who do you think I should choose for Floyd?)

OoOoo.. Russell Crowe. That’s a good choice too. Must go back and look at pics! And see if I like that better than Butler.
Floyd is Tina’s boyfriend who turns into a werewolf when he gets nervous. (DANGIT! I haven’t added him to the cast page yet.) That’s him on the couch in the latest strip here.

Hi, Kim!! Diane Lane is gorgeous. Her features, especially around the eye/nose are very close to what I imagine. I’d have to round out her cheeks and bod for sure to use her for Zelda, but she’s definitely a contender!
Moozey: I think Mathew Perry’s head is too narrow for my image of Floyd. But in my quest for pics, I saw Matt Le Blanc who played Joey on “Friends.” Matt is a little closer to my mental picture.
Bearman: Wow! She’s an excellent choice! She even has close to the right body for Zelda, too.
I wish I’d asked you guys for help YEARS ago. Keep the suggestions coming!

Ok, she was around like in the 80s. All I can think of for Zelda is a funny woman 
Or Catherine O’Hara?
My first thought was Melissa McCarthy, who’s been in “Gilmore Girls” and “Samantha Who?” The latter also had Christina Applegate, who might make a good model for Tina. Or, if you want “rounded”. how about Christina Hendricks for Zelda? 
I was thinking that as I was going home this evening, though he is quirky as I imagine Floyd to be his face is somewhat too slender. It is driving me nuts because there is a particular actor I am thinking of but the name escapes me….if I ever remember it I will be sure to come back and let you know.

I am no good at comparing faces. It’s a shame my wife isn’t here, as she did it often for her RP’s online and she was great at it.
Anyway, as soon as you get everyone matched to a star, you need to start on the movie script! ~_^
Antoine! Edie McClurg sure has the right coloring, doesn’t she? Her face isn’t quite right, but she’s definitely in the ball park. Did you mean Maureen O’Hara, the actress? If so, she was already on my list. Though her jawline is a bit square, but her coloring matches and her features are perfect for Zelda. Would translate nicely to comic drawing I think.
BrianT: Oh wow. Check out this pic of Melissa Mcarthy. She is definitely on my list now! I also looked up Christina Hendricks. Her eyes/eyebrows are lovely and she has a wide mouth, good for exaggerated comic expression. She’s on my list too.
Moozey: I did see that picture, but I wasn’t looking at him! His beard is perfect for Floyd.
Dale: HAH. I’d rather sell the movie rights for a bazillion dollars than do it myself. *grin*
Wow I am having a hard time thinking about this because I don’t pay attention to any actor/actress names. ^^;
I tried to do this myself once, but, having come up with a match, never actually remember to hunt for reference photos.
Nycteris: It’s a good exercise. Up until now, Tina is the only one I’ve done it for, though.

I didn’t know Patrick Warburton was “that voice” !
Maybe Bill looks like that, but giving him that voice messes with my head. 
I live under a rock I guess because I am looking upt what Rules of Engagement is.

In my mind Bill has my husband’s voice, but my husband has a dreamy voice too.
I think you can see episodes of Rules of Engagement on Hulu.com. It’s a “cute” show.
I know I’m a little late on this – but what about Julia Roberts? I know she looks young, but so does Zelda. I’m not up on my celebrities, so that’s the closest I could think of.
She sure has the right coloring for Zelda (especially as she looked in Pretty Woman). I think her face is too angular, though I could round it off. She does have large eyes and a wide mouth, which is good for cartoony expression.
I love Kathy Najimy and I think she is a great choice, for Bill I quite like the look of Russell Crowe in Gladiator with very strong features…not sure who Floyd is??
