Ask Samantha

Every Wednesday is Ask Samantha! If you have any questions you’d like to ask about Life’s a Witch, making web comics or me or anything, send them to SAMANTHA (AT) WITCHYTECH (DOT) COM.

Q: Is Life’s a Witch autobiographical?

A:   No, definitely not. Although the characters are based on my family and some events in the comic are based on things that happened in real life, they are very separate.

Q: You’ve been using Manga Studio lately. Do you like it better than Photoshop?

A.  I do like Manga Studio (Debut 4), but I am still much more comfortable with Photoshop (CS).  I would like to master working with Manga Studio and maybe at some point, use it exclusively since it is designed specifically for making comics.  But for right now, I rely more on Photoshop.  Keep watching this blog and the comic comment section. I will continue to talk about both programs as I learn.

Thank you guys for sending those questions! If you like the Ask Samantha day, please let me know! Or better yet, send a question of your own!

What do you feel is the best advice to give to new artists?

Hi, Seshiru! I’ll add that question to the list for next Wednesday.

Please email me any other questions you may have!

I’ll be looking forward to hearing more about your experiences with Manga Studio down the line, Samantha. I’ve been interested in that app, too, as a fellow Photoshop user who might want to switch. (If it cuts the mustard.) :)

Chris, I’ll try to make more comments with each strip on the process. You’re not the first to tell me they’ve been looking at this program and are interested in my impressions as I’m learning!

was wondering what set up you have? (always like knowing others set up) using Cintaq myself, feeling like I’m mis-using it

Hi, JohnDoe! Do you mean what equipment I use to draw? I actually get that question a lot during my drawing sessions so I have added it to the drawing FAQ. (CLICK HERE and scroll down to the bottom.)

I’ll add that question to the Ask Samantha for next Wednesday and be more specific about each thing I use.
