Do you name your cars? You know… give them nicknames like you would a ship?
I have already mentioned my ’91 Chevy Caprice wagon was known as the BATTLECAR GALLACTICA. My current truck is the WITCHY WAGON (Ford Pick-up). My husband drives THE HUMLET (Honda Element) and my son will inherit “THE IMPERIAL LLAMA” (Chevy Impala). There were others, like “Green Machine” and “Big Red”….
What names have you called your cars? If you’ve never named your car, have you named other things? Like your house or your office?

I have named many of my vehicles, and before I got married, I found out that my wife-to-be did as well.
My last vehicle was a Mazda MVP van whose name came from the color of the van. That’s how I normally would name cars (color then name, ie. White Wonder, Red Rover, etc.) This one was named Savanna, a double pun, if you will. The color of the van was “Shimmering Sand”, and of course the van had the nickname of “Sandy”.
I nicknamed my first computer, an Apple IIe, Russet Apple, because it had an amber-pixeled monitor. The name is also a reference to Appleton Porter, a tall spy with a propensity for blushing(hence his nickname), created by Marc Lovell.
I knew a woman years ago who had a yellow VW Rabbit she referred to as the Lemon because it broke down so often. She said all that was missing was the swizzle stick!
Let me know how the frosting comes out
When we first buy a car, it goes unamed until one day when it won’t start. Then, when we are trying to start it, we yell out names until it starts/we give up trying and whatever name was last yelled is what it gets to be called. We have a Suzuki Esteem that’s Suzie, an MGB that’s Missy, a Hyundai Accent that is Louise and a Kia Rio that’s Karie. This way all of our cars get really creative names!
Cheers!
We never have had a computer that goes for five years…
Our cars (currently) are a GeoMetro, a Mazda Truck (no idea the years or models on these) and a big maroon Chevy 8-seater van. The van is the Maroon Monstrosity and the truck is the Gutless Wonder, also known as Frowny-Face because the bumper in front was rammed into a tree and is now only hanging on in the very front of the car, behind the licence plate. We have no name for the GeoMetro.
You want automotive horror stories, I have buckets of them, my favorite is posted here: http://theblackbaron.blogspot.com/2009/06/another-tale-of-hole-in-head-gang-sort.html
And I still haven’t posted anything about the car I drove home in flames, the cars I drove, sometimes for years at a time, with no brakes, or the time I ran over my own passenger seat.
Never underestimate the power of a clunker, when I drive one I never have any problems with getting cut off or someone trying to bully their way in front of me, one look at the car tells them that I have no problem whatsoever with trading a little paint, one more dent or crease wont matter.

I had a 1982 pontiac J2000 that was a known lemon. We called it “The Abortion”, because that’s what it should have been. It never should have been made/sold.
Because of that experience, I vowed I would never spend another dime with GM. I guess that’s a really good thing now.
