Keeping My Resolutions

Well, I’m happy to report that January is almost over and I have managed to keep my comic-related resolutions so far. I think that’s a record for me.

One of my resolutions was to improve my art by drawing from life.  I have taken to carrying a moleskine around with me and doing sketches in it (as well as taking daily notes…I can see why people love them so much!). Mostly, I have been drawing while waiting for the school bell to ring… which means I’m in a parking lot. So, I’ve been drawing cars! HAHAH. Here are some sample pictures:

As a result of some of the feedback I received, I have been working on my linework to make it more steady. Have you noticed a difference in the last 4 strips or so? I’m also tightening up the format a bit. It’s still very flexible, but just looks a bit more tailored. How do you feel about that?

Finally, I have been working on keeping my drawings a bit more consistent in style and quality. I can tell that I’m improving, but I’m not quite where it is natural yet. It was fortunate for me that Stephanie O’Donnell of The Original Nutty Funsters (PG-13+ rated comic) shared a drawing exercise she found. I need to do one of these for each character of Life’s a Witch. Here is Zelda.

I am also trying to work on the writing of the strip, but that is a bit more difficult. As always, you will be subjected to my experiments which will be presented as actual comics. I would welcome any feedback either in the comments here or on this little message board if you are so inclined.

I love it! That’s something I would like to take up. I rarely ever draw anything that’s not directly related to my comic, but I think my art would be so much better if I did. Keep it up, I’d love to see more!

qka, Thank you for catching that! It’s fixed now.

Hi, Matt! If you do take it up, we’d love to see.
